BBC ALBA REVIEW - PUBLIC CONSULTATION
SUBMISSION BY BÒRD NA GÀIDHLIG
Gaelic is an integral part of Scotland’s culture and identity and providing a sustainable future for the language in Scotland is a stated policy aim of the Scottish Government.
Significant progress has been made to enhance the status and sustainability of Gaelic, by expanding the provision of Gaelic medium education (GME), establishing BBC Alba and expanding Gaelic arts and publishing.
We are now concentrating on accelerating measures that will achieve an increase in the number of Gaelic speakers.

BÒRD NA GÀIDHLIG RESPONSE TO COUNCILLOR ROSIE’S COMMENTS
Bòrd na Gàidhlig is very familiar with Mr Rosie’s oft-repeated views. He chooses on every occasion not to address the Bòrd directly, despite an invitation from the Chair to meet at any time. He has also refused to discuss these matters at a public meeting in his own area. He has never passed on any of the evidence he claims are the views of his constituents

Bòrd na Gàidhlig calls for immediate transmission of BBC Alba on Freeview
The success of BBC Alba since its establishment in September 2008 is testimony to the unique collaboration between BBC and MG Alba and
Bòrd na Gàidhlig believes that the future success of the channel
is dependent on two key actions: Making BBC Alba available on Freeview with immediate effect and increasing the funding available to BBC Alba to enable it to sustain and develop its programming.
