"Gaelic: A vibrant living language in Ireland and Scotland"
Colmcille was set up in 1997 with funding from the Governments of Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland with a remit to 'create a vibrant interactive community spanning Ireland and Scotland'.
They aim to do this is two ways:
- giving grant funding to projects that meet our strategic aims
- organising our own projects that raise awareness of the shared heritage of the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland and Scotland
Colmcille's Aims
Promoting the use of the Gaelic languages -Irish and Scottish Gaelic-in and between Ireland and Scotland. Raising awareness of the shared Gaelic heritage -language and culture- of Northern Ireland, Scotland and the Republic of Ireland.
Grant aid & Bursaries
Colmcille are currently seeking ideas for suitable projects involving the community, language, arts, education and sport. Should you be interested in making an application, please contact the Project Officer for your own region in the first instance.
Colmcille are offering a limited number of bursaries for Gaelic speakers who wish to learn Gaeilge, and for Gaeilge speakers who wish to learn Gàidhlig at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig and Ionad Chaluim Chille Ìle.
