Further & Higher Education
A degree in Celtic has been offered by the older universities in Scotland for many years, and teacher training courses for Gaelic teachers have been on offer for some time also. With regard to courses on other subjects, which are delivered through the medium of Gaelic, that is a more recent development and Sabhal Mòr Ostaig in Skye and Lews Castle College in Lewis have been very much at the forefront of this type of education.
Bòrd na Gàidhlig understands the importance of this sector and it is vital that young Gaelic speakers have enough opportunities to carry on a Gaelic education when they leave school. For those wishing to learn about Gaelic culture and literature, or carry out research into matters connected with Gaelic, or prepare themselves for a career in the media, or as a Gaelic teacher, there is an appropriate course in Scottish Higher Education. From one year courses to postgraduate programmes, a Gaelic medium or Gaelic-related education is available in Further & Higher Education.
