Bòrd na Gàidhlig, the national language board, responsible for safeguarding the future of Gaelic has begin the process of appointing a new leader for its education and learning team.
The post holder will be responsible for the Bòrd’s education policy, advising the Bòrd itself, Scottish Government and other education and learning providers such as local authorities on the Bòrd’s aims and aspirations. The Bòrd is seeking to replace Rosemary Ward, who left earlier this summer to take up a post at Comhairle nan Leabhraichean, the Gaelic Books Council.
Arthur Cormack, the Bòrd’s Cathraiche (Chair) said: “This is arguably the most important appointment in Gaelic education and we are seeking someone with drive and initiative who will deliver the Bòrd’s aspirations and commitments detailed in our new Action Plan Ginealach Ùr na Gàidhlig. There is a great deal to be done in all sectors of Gaelic education and this is a key post in terms of our delivery. By providing the right level of parental support and opportunities for learning Gaelic in the community and by developing our skills base in schools we will be able to accelerate the rate at which learners will come to speak Gaelic. This is a challenging post which will be rewarding in many ways and we are confident we will find an individual with the right mix of skills, experience and enthusiasm.”
An information pack detailing the job and the terms & Conditions is available from the Bòrd’s office in Inverness, and on the website www.gaidhlig.org.uk
Applications must be submitted to the Bòrd by 1700, Friday, September 17. The post is advertised on a salary scale of £43,736-52,595. Interviews will be held as soon as possible.
