Gaelic Arts - Play your part

Bòrd na Gàidhlig are committed to supporting traditional and contemporary Gaelic arts & culture. The Bòrd recognises that many people are attracted to learn and use the language by accessing and partaking in various Gaelic art forms including music, song, dance, drama & literature.

Events

There are numerous festivals and events in the Scottish arts calendar which support Gaelic artists and draw Gaelic speakers & enthusiast from home and abroad.  Some of these events include:

  • The Royal National Mod – The oldest and biggest Gaelic festival; the Mod is held in mid October every year and annually changes location.   2012 – Dunoon.  2013 – Paisley.  2014 - Inverness.
  • Blas – Held every September in venues across the Highlands, the Blas festival celebrates Highland culture and artists from the community to professional acts.
  • Piping Live – Scotland's premier piping festival held in Glasgow each August.
  • Fèisean nan Gàidheal – Promoting and developing over 40 community-based Gaelic arts tuition festivals across the year throughout Scotland.
  • Celtic Connections - Scotland's premier winter music festival. Held in Glasgow and featuring favourite acts and the best new talent in more than 200 events over 19 days.
  • Hebridean Celtic Festival – Held in the Outer Hebrides in July, this festival is great for all ages who love Celtic music & song.
  • Ceòlas - A week of music, dance, and fun in Uist each summer.

Gaelic Arts & Culture Officer

Bòrd na Gàidhlig and Creative Scotland co-fund the post of the Gaelic Arts and Culture officer. The officers work concentrates on delivering and renewing the National Gaelic Arts Strategy as well as liaising and optimising opportunities for artistes and bodies interested in furthering the Gaelic arts in Scotland and abroad.
